The doors of the ancient Shiva and Hanuman temple, which were closed for 46 years, in Khaggu Sarai area of Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh were opened on Sunday. Under the supervision of the police and administration, the temple was freed from encroachment and the puja was performed. As soon as the morning dawned, devotees reached the temple and performed Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva.

The atmosphere in the temple premises became devotional with the chanting of Mahadev and Hanuman ji along with recitation of Aarti and Hanuman Chalisa. After decades, enthusiasm was seen among the devotees due to religious rituals being performed in this temple.

Worship took place in the temple which was closed for 46 years
As soon as the dawn broke, devotees reached the temple and performed Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva and worshiped with aarti and chanting mantras. While reciting Hanuman Chalisa, devotees shouted praises of Mahadev and Hanuman ji. The people of the area appreciated the administration for opening the temple. It is believed that this temple may be about 200 years old or even more. Its historicity will be investigated by the Archeology Department.

The temple was closed after the 1978 riots
According to local people, worship in the temple had stopped after the riots in 1978. At that time, about 40 Hindu (Rastogi) families lived in Khaggu Sarai, who had left the area after the riots. 82-year-old Vishnu Sharan Rastogi told that this temple was established by his ancestors. The family members used to worship regularly, but after migrating from the area the temple could not be maintained.

Well also found in the temple premises, investigation will begin
DM Dr. Rajendra Pansia said that on secret information the temple was identified and the locks were opened. An old well has also been found in the temple premises, which was closed. The administration got the well excavated and now the process of saving it will be started again.
